Where is AICM Located?
Our new campus is located in the cultural heart of Balmain/Rozelle, easily accessible via public transport and situated very close to the City of Sydney (Town Hall Station). AICM also utilizes facilities of its secondary school located in Harris Park.
Where can I view a list of staff members?
An up-to-date list of staff can be found by logging onto: www.aicm.edu.au/aboutus2.htm
Are there opportunities to perform at AICM?
Yes. AICM is proud of its extensive list of curricular and professional events held throughout the year. Along with regular performances students are provided opportunities to gain professional experience at a host of major industry, corporate and Government events.
Can I focus on different areas of study?
Yes. As musicians in the modern age it is extremely important to diversify and build skills in different areas of the performing arts. As well as a strong focus on major subjects, students are encouraged to develop skills in other genres and fields which normally may not have been considered. This is critical for professional development and will make available more opportunities in future educational and professional advancements.
What costs are involved in applying for AICM?
You will be required to pay an Audition Fee of $55 (or $250 for overseas students) which is payable before or on the day of audition. If you audition on an allocated ‘AICM Audition Day’ this fee is waived. If your audition is successful and you have been accepted into an AICM course, local students have the option of deferring all tuition payments through Fee-Help. Click here to view our current Fee Schedule (overseas students will need to click on the "International Students" menu option on the left of this page).
What happens in an audition?
The audition process spans approximately 30-45 mins and has been established to gauge your academic/performance level and to learn more on what you would like to achieve out of the course. Along with a short interview you will be required to perform 1-2 pieces of contrasting style. If you’re familiar with multiple genres or instruments it is recommended that you demonstrate these skills in your audition. If you specialise in only one genre ensure that your pieces exemplify your range as much as possible.
How about accompaniment?
Although solo performances are perfectly acceptable, applicants are free to choose any form of accompaniment to assist with the performance. Backing CD’s and/or tapes are a popular option, otherwise you can arrange your own live accompaniment for the audition or (depending on availbility) AICM can provide an accompanist for you (on the condition that sheet music and at least three weeks notice is provided prior to the audition date).
When do I need to apply by?
There are 2 intake periods for entry into AICM: February for yearly enrolment and July for mid year. However, as places are limited applications forms must be submitted well in advance to avoid losing your place. Although auditions can be scheduled for a later date, as long as we have a copy of an application form your place will be held until you have officially enrolled. Click here to view our application page and to submit an application form.
