The Diploma Of Music (Performance) is a challenging performance orientated course to develop artistic and personal skills essential in music performance and appreciation. It provides students with a sound music education and solid foundation across a diverse range of industry-related topics, allowing graduates to maximize opportunities upon course completion.
A strong emphasis is placed on solo, group and ensemble performance studies. Students will also diversify their skills by undertaking music theory, aural, and music history subjects as well as customized electives.
Performance Styles
The AICM offers studies in classical, contemporary and jazz performance. Students also undertake theory, composition, conducting, music theatre,
pedagogy and church music subjects.
Course Structure
Practical Studies
These are performance or composition studies related to the student's major instrument or voice - Principal Study, Performance Class, Ensemble Class, Choir, Concert Attendance..
Core Subjects
Studies related to theory and the history of music - Harmony and Analysis, Aural and Musicianship, Music History.
Electives
Courses allowing the student to shape their degree to their interests including - Music Management, Music Theatre, Song Writing, Keyboard Skills, Music Technology, Contemporary Music, Australian Music, Pedagogy (teaching), Jazz Studies.
Duration of Course
The program may be undertaken full time in two years or up to four years part time.
Bachelor of Music (Performance)
Students who successfully complete the first two years may apply to go onto the third year Bachelor of Music (Performance) programme.
