From The President’s Desk
Yet again it has been another busy couple of months at AICM. Time is flying by so quickly! I hope all of our past and present board members, staff, students, friends, families and all AICM supporters are doing well. I’m sure the students are working hard on their studies, gearing up towards exams and recitals. I wish them all the very best and encourage them to get lots of practice in. There’s good news to share about AICM staff and students of late. I’d like to welcome two new principal study tutors Mark Costa (bass guitar) and Veren Grigorov (classical violin). The students are definitely lucky to be learning from their valuable expertise. Pianist extraordinaire Quang Hong Luu (3rd year student) has also won 1st place at the prestigious Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition! The competition was held in Brisbane and involved over 60 competitors from different universities across Australia and New Zealand, including students who studied at Yale. Congratulations to Quang on a spectacular achievement! He’s truly become our national champion. We’ve had some important events finish up recently, such as the Sydney Opera House concert, surrounded by our beautiful harbour. It was a huge success! I’m very proud of our performers, stage-hands and staff contributors, and thankful of our fellow students and all supporters who came to watch an amazing show. The positive feedback I received spoke of how much the audience appreciated our efforts and I certainly plan to stage another epic event next year, seeing as how it will be AICM’s 20th anniversary – it can only get bigger and better. Just before the semester finishes up, we have some final events in store for you. Wonderfully talented multi-instrumentalist Jess Ciampa will conduct a special masterclass focusing on rhythm/percussion. This is a perfect opportunity to learn from one of the best in the industry. We also have the Bridge Hotel Jazz and Contemporary Ensemble concert exams happening over two nights which are always loads of fun. Lastly, we have Australia’s Got Talent (AGT) holding exclusive auditions on campus at AICM for all students and year 12 AIPAH students! This is a very rare opportunity – a first for AICM – and I’m so excited to bring it to you all. I urge students to take this chance, have confidence and be imaginative, think outside the box and show the AGT judges what remarkable talent our students have to offer. You have nothing to lose and you never know what doors can open for you. As always I remind our students to continue working hard and enjoy these fantastic activities and opportunities coming their way. See you all next time. Every best wish, Prof. Kyunghee Lee AICM President
