Focus area - Contemporary
Here is your chance to cover it all; Rock, R & B, Funk, Pop and the Blues. To lead to the ultimate goal of performing all the styles in a variety of live venues and studios, you will need a range of musical and technical skills, including: reading, arranging, understanding form, dynamics, articulation, counting in, and coaching on performance techniques and ensemble playing. Through expert guidance, training and a wide range of performance opportunities AICM will help you develop into an accomplished musician and artist.
ELECTIVES
Contemporary Improvisation From a strong theory foundation, students will have the skills to improvise over various contemporary styles that use diatonic and non-diatonic progressions. Understand extended and altered chords and have the ability to apply them in context.
Conducting Students gain the historical, theoretical, analytical knowledge and practical elements of conducting techniques, with a strong focus on actual conducting assessments with various size ensembles.
Pop Harmony This will enable students to analyse, understand, compose and transcribe key elements of Popular Music since 1960, including rhythm, instrumentation and playing techniques.
Improvisation & Ensemble Handling Students will cover the areas that are essential for an effective ensemble and improvisation, including: what makes a great ensemble, concepts and techniques, performance and research. |
